Kitten Update

Rachel continues to be a love bug.  Ray continues to retreat from "the hand".  I *did* manage to hold him yesterday (Friday) ... for 5 seconds.  But that was 5 seconds more than I'd had up to that point; so I'm going to keep trying today.

I think it's time for a little bribery, i.e. cooked chicken, this afternoon after lunch.

Morticia met them yesterday morning.  She appeared ... unimpressed.  Ate a bit of their kibble and left.  And she touched noses with Rachel.  With Ray, SOMEONE hissed, but I couldn't tell who it was ... my guess would be Ray but they just stared at each other, albeit at fairly close range, and Morticia isn't normally a hisser.  So my bet is with Mr. Ray.

This is Ray sitting on the back of my chair, working on his tan.

    1. Katie Kat: She says no, and she has to get hold of him first! MOL Any suggestions on doing that w/out flipping him completely out?

    2. Well The Mom used a step by step method wif me and it worked furry good. Each step takes several days depending on the kitty kat's tolerance fur each step. Duz him let u touch him?

What the Mom did was hur wouldn't feeds me til hur could sit as close to me as pawsible, then her fed me. Her kept sitting closer and closer until her could touch me.

Then her wouldn't feed me until her could touch me... then her fed me. Then hur had to pet me before hur fed me... then hur finally had to pick me up before hur fed me... even just 5 seconds or barely off the floor... Den hur had to hold me... Hope you could try sompin like dis wif Ray.

    3. That sounds like a wonderful idea! I just fed them both chicken pieces for the first time & Ray took to that well! But RACHEL REALLY likes chicken so distracting her to focus on HIM is a bit difficult. But not impossible. More chicken later today!

  2. Ray does look pretty cute sitting there. I say just pick him up and set him somewhere he might like every time the opportunity happens and he will probably get used to the picking up part.

    1. Brian, MomKatt also thinks perhaps moving the ottoman will help - one less thing to hide UNDER.

  3. Ray has a lovely tan! That time near the window must be working.

When Ashton was a feral scrap of a kitten, the head peep read something that suggested having all food come from a human and not free-feeding, so humans are associated with the good stuff. So she would sit on the floor and put Ashton's bowl of food on her lap twice a day for mealtimes. Of course, Ash eats from a bowl on the floor now, but it worked to help get Ashton to let the head peep to handle her early on.

  4. Ray seems to soak up the sun and we bet he will always be a sun lover. Mum always wraps us in a towel when we get our necks dabbed for fleas and wormies (a preventative because we go out).
Luv Hannah and Lucy xx xx

  5. Sounds like they are doing really well and that is great. At least he is in the same room as you are and not hiding under the bed. Thanks for doing such a nice thing for those two. Take care.

  6. Five seconds is a start, hopefully ten seconds today. If he does things in his own time maybe he will soon realise there is no threat to him and relax more.

  7. Ray will get used to the attention, good to see them doing great!

  8. Ray and Rachel haven't been at your house for all that long, so I think you are doing good with Ray. Just be patient and follow some of these suggestions and I'm sure he'll come around.

  9. Five seconds is five seconds. We figure the fact that Ray let you get hold of him at all is pretty good noos.

  10. Slowly, slowly! Very soon it will be 6 seconds and then you know you've got a cuddler!! Ray's tan looks as though it's coming on a treat! xx

  11. Just one hiss and no smacky paws? Sounds pretty good to us!
Five seconds now, ten tomorrow, MOL!

  12. I know you want to adopt them out as soon as possible but you need to give him time. Trust doesn't happen overnight. When I came into my house, I would sleep with the peeps and follow them around but they couldn't touch me. Then I became a 3 stroke cat. More than 3 strokes and I'd get all smacky pawed. He's young and he's blind so it may take time.

    1. Oh CK I know ... but MomKatt has such a soft heart. She sees him holding back & she just wants to gather him into her arms & make it all better. He's been through SO much, between kitties picking on him/beating him up/pushing him away from the food ...

      Time, time, time ...
