*!&!)#$*_+_!($?????

MomKatt here, peeps.

We've had an adventurous day today.  Anyone that subscribes to my Facebook page knows that I put out a purr request for Our Favorite One-Eyed Nut Job this morning.

Well, Dr. B just called, then we played phone tag, then I finally got with him just now & here's the scoop.

Immediately after I left her at his office this morning, Dr. B  did a quick outer physical exam of Selina & found nothing that appeared wrong.  Then he took a urine sample because her bladder was REALLY full.  He said doing this would give him a good idea of what was going on with her metabolic processes.  He ran it through the "Urine Machine" and she was (to use his phraseology) "spilling" sugar in her urine, at a very high level, which immediately made him think, "Well, there you go, she's diabetic!"  (The condition can create some bizarre mental states sometimes, like the animal looking woozy/moony/unsteady on her pins like I was seeing with her on the counter this morning.)  (Also note that, to date, she has ALWAYS had pristine bloodwork and runs on all four cylinders like a champ with NO problems or red flags.)
Right after that, he had other scheduled patients to see so he didn't get around to pulling a blood sample for her & conducting a more thorough exam 'til around mid-day.  He got the blood sample and ran it through its special machine, and her blood sugar levels were at about 81 - "right smack dab in the middle of normal" as he said.  So he thought, "OK the machine read the sample wrong, it's not working", because it didn't match or concur with the numbers he got earlier in the morning, so he ran more blood through another machine.

Sure enough, results at 83 - again, in the middle of a "normal" blood sugar range.
He says, at this point, the only solution he could offer (finding, also, with the blood sample that all her other functions - liver, blood cells, etc. - were A-OK) was that, at some point before we came out of the bedroom this morning, SOMETHING scared the pure-T HELL out of that cat or she was somehow or other scared/stunned ... when something like that, he explained, happens to ANY mammal, be it a cat, dog or human (the "fight or flight" syndrome), the liver sends copious amounts of sugar into the system, obviously to help you deal with the threat or whatever, and the kidneys being the system's filters immediately kick in to process that overage of sugar.
He said, given how I'd described her behavior - how she "hunkered down", how she kept to herself and kinda balled herself up, how she was creeping when she was walking across the carpet with her body down low ... SOMETHING really startled the hell out of her.

He suggested that I write all of this down, including the time of day this happened & how she behaved, my observations, etc. and just put them away in case this happens again in the future.  Then he'll re-check her if necessary.  I asked how she was acting otherwise there throughout the day & he said she was acting just fine, just normal, hanging out in her little area ...

So I'm leaving at 4:30 to pick her up & bring her home.  My poor little NutJob!  I thought when I first picked her up when Gary & I found her next to the sofa in bread-loaf position, just judging from how rigidly she was holding herself and how bunched up her body was, that she was frightened and I mean SEVERELY so.

So we'll keep a close eye on her in the next few days, but I'm hoping this was just some weird isolated incident.  Morticia WAS out in the house (Gary had let her out of the bedroom about 3 AM, he'd told me before all this started happening) so maybe she was chasing 'Ticia (as we ALL know she does) and ... something happened, she ran into something, turned a corner wrong in that dark house on the side without an eye ... who knows?   Or she saw something at our front door, like a HUGE raccoon or something that scared her ... we'll never know.

But that's today's excitement.  Ack!  I want to thank EVERYONE for their purrs & concern for my wonderful little girl.  I can't wait to get home with her!

Obviously, since it's Thankful Thursday, I'm thankful that - hopefully - she's OK & that she just had the bejezuz scared out of her.
