Yesterday Was a Very Special Day

It's amazing how quickly time passes.

One year ago yesterday, I brought into my life two other lives that I did not expect to keep for myself.  I was just doing a good turn for two sweet kittens whose futures didn't appear to be all that bright.

Of course, being cats, THEY knew that that particular day in 2013 was their Gotcha! Day and I, being the sucker that I am, started to suspect it as time went on.  But DadKatt held out, saying, "You SAID foster only!"

Well.  Look where we are now.

Happy Gotcha! Day Plus One to Man Ray (formerly Ray Charles) and Rachel.

Here they are as they were one year ago at the vet's office in South Carolina:

MISS RACHEL

MR. RAY

And here they are today:

MISS RACHEL & HER STEIFF COLLECTION

HANDSOME MAN RAY

It's been an eventful year for them.  Now, when I pick Ray up to hold him, he no longer grabs my right upper arm to hold onto.  He trusts me to hold him securely and purrs and purrs.  He claims "morning time" with me when I'm getting ready for work doing his favorite thing:   rubbing against, and winding around, my ankles.  Then I get down on all fours and the mutual head-bonking session starts, and he gets lots of lovins.  It's like he's saying, "MY mommeh!" quite emphatically.  He loves melted butter and, as I say, is the biggest mooch on the planet.  (He even stole a Cheese Nip cracker from me this weekend!  And ATE it!  And LIKED it!)

Rachel is just her same sweet self, multiplied by a factor of 1,000.  As you all know, she had surgery on her left eye a couple of months back and it's closed up permanently now.  She recovered swiftly and without incident, and now her right eye is open wider and is even more beautiful.  She loves hanging out at the kitchen sink with her brother, playing with ice cubes in the sink (Ray likes this, too, actually.  The two of them chasing an ice cube in the sink is a very noisy event!) and playing with all kinds of teasers.  She plays hard, and is quite the athlete.  But she always has time for lovins and her purr is nearly constant.

I don't think they could be happier.  I know Gary and I couldn't be happier being their pawrents.  They just fit right in with the rest of the clowder and continue to delight us with everything about them.  Ray's a mooch; Rachel has "nose problems" (as in "up in your business" nose problems) but they are both happy and VERY healthy.

Once again, we both thank Dad Terry from Brian's Home for being the catalyst (sorry no pun intended) for bringing us together with these wonderful kitties.  I can't begin to say how much they are both loved.

I'm so proud to be their MomKatt and DadKatt feels the same way.  Happy (late) Gotcha! Day to "The Twins"!

We never realized that Rachel was ear-tipped but Ray isn't. That gives her extra character.

  13. It really is hard to believe that an entire year has gone by since you started caring for Ray and Rachel. Our mom fell in love with them when they were your fosters and bugged our dad about them constantly, wanting to adopt them. He never wavered from his, "Eight is enough." And obviously, he was right. They are exactly where they belong, and we wish them and you years of happiness together. XO, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo
