Please purr ....
Hi peeps,
Could all of you maybe purr a little for my crazy brofur, Feisal? He's not doing too well. Short story long, he's either got lymphoma or IBS, MomKatt doesn't know which, but for a long time his poops haven't been normal and he's been on Prednizone, because MomKatt didn't want to put him through all kinds of invasive procedures - and possibly more - to find out what was wrong. (He's 10 years old and has lost a good amount of weight over the last few months.) But his "quality of life" is still good, or at least it HAS been; he still persecutes me, he still eats very well, he's still fairly active & wants attention, wants to be petted, etc.
But he's recently lost more weight ... MomKatt still has him on the Pred (transdermal) and slippery elm to try to soothe his intestines so he doesn't feel like he has to "go" quite so much. His poops haven't been solid for a very long time and he really doesn't feel good.
So ... if you could purr for him MomKatt would appreciate it. She thinks he's very special and I guess I would, too, if he wouldn't chase me so much ...
Thank you ...
A subdued Selina
PS - This is him when he was a kitten.

Sending large purrs and love for Feisal. There's a wonderful drug called Sulphasalazine which can be very helpful for kitties with bowel problems. It comes in a syrup form. Maybe your Mum could ask the vet about it. We hope Feisal will be ok
ReplyDeleteGerry & Oliver
We are sending purrs to all of you - it can be scary when this happens.
ReplyDeleteOh my, we are all sending many, many purrs to that sweet Feisal. We sure hope he starts doing better soon.
ReplyDeleteGosh, we are so sorry Feisal is sick. We sure are sending ton and tons of purrs to him. We hope they can help him get better. If he is still eating, maybe he is all right. It is so hard to know what to do. Anyway,we are crossing our paws that he gets better and quickly. Take care.
ReplyDeleteI just had a thought, that he might have thyroid problems which will make them lose weight even though they are eating. I have a cat who has thyroid and the IBS and she is on Pred and thyroid medicine and doing well. But it might be useful to just test him for that.
ReplyDeleteWe will all purr for you Feisal, so you will get and feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteHugs, too

We're sending him our loudest purrs! Has he been tested for hyper-thyroidism? It's very common in older cats and will cause weight loss, etc.
ReplyDeleteWe are sending tons of healing purrs to Feisal, we hopes he feels better soon and puts on some weight.
ReplyDeleteWe're sending lots of purrs and wags to Feisal. We hope he'll get better soon.
ReplyDeleteNo, he's been dealing with runny poops for a couple of years now. Our vet checked him for thyroid problems - all that, his bloodwork, everything - checked out just fine. In the end, he told MomKatt it was either intestinal lymphoma or IBS, and told her about putting him on Pred but that, if she went that route, they'd lose any diagnostic capabilities. OTOH there were biopsies, etc. that could tell them but, even then, if it WERE lymphoma, there'd be chemo, etc., putting Feisal through even more stress, drugs, etc.
ReplyDeleteThe vet (we love him, he's a great guy) laid out all the options and MomKatt talked it over w/DadKatt and they decided to go with the Pred and to not put him through invasive procedures when his immune system was no doubt already compromised to begin with. He's been on Pred for almost a year now and it's really helped but, during the last two months, he's lost more weight, though his appetite is still VERY good and he's still wanting attention and love, etc.
So it's kind of a "day to day" thing, really. They're doing their best for him and keeping him under close watch. If his "quality of life" starts waning, and he begins to eat less or show signs of not wanting to be bothered about things anymore (and for an Aby, to not wish to be bothered by whatever is going on in the room is indeed a BAD sign) ... then they'll have to make some tough choices.
MomKatt's going to take him back to Dr. Lofgren for a check-up in the next few days ... and see what he thinks.
Thank you all so much for your kind thoughts & purrs. We love you all!
Selina
We will start purring right now!
ReplyDeleteWe're sorry Feisal isn't feeling well. We're revving our purr motors into high gear for him.
ReplyDeleteSending comforting purrrrrrss to Feisal. We hope he feels better, and hangs around for a long while yet.
ReplyDeletePS: Tell Feisal he looked very regal in that photo, even with where he was sitting.
ppuurrrrrrrrr
I am purring LOTS for Feisal. I hope they figure out whatever is going on with him and are able to help!
ReplyDeleteObi has squishy poos, and he is on pred twice a day now (5mg each time), and he also gets Metamucil in a little bit of liquid from Little Friskies each morning. This helps a lot to make the poos a bit less squishy. Obi has been on pred for years for his IBD.
ReplyDeleteLuf, Maw
Oh, forgot to say 1/4 tsp. each day Metamucil. You can also use pumpkin puree, but it is easier to just get the Metamucil and give that to him.

Thanks for letting us know that Feisal is not feeling well, sweet Selina. We are purring and praying real hard for him.
ReplyDeleteWe are purring our hearts out for Feisal. Bless you, Selina, for using your blog to let us know.
ReplyDeleteHas his thyroid been tested recently? Things do change over time. In an older cat, results in the lower end of the normal range are best. And an abdominal ultrasound might be a good idea.
Hugs and purrs to all of your family at this difficult time,
Laura, Taffy, and (angels) Jet and Venus
We have never visited your blog but read about Feisal on the CB, and wanted to stop by with some big purrs.
