Report From Sick Bay
Howdy peeps,
First off, THANK YOU so much for everyone's concern, thoughts, messages. It means so much to me & MomKatt (and DadKatt). A short update.
As you read in the previous entry, Dr. Lofgren said I had a "fever of unknown origin" (and that I also weigh a nice, solid 11 lbs.). He said, in a cat as young as I, these usually are caused by just something I've picked up. He noted that I hadn't lost any weight, and that my gums were nice & pink, so those were good signs.
He gave me antibiotics in a shot and Sub-Q fluids yesterday and, when MomKatt picked me up, my temp was down from 104.2 to 103. (He told her normal was 100-102.) I ate my gooshy food once I got home and spent all night on MomKatt's lap on the sofa - I WENT to the sofa MYSELF this time, she didn't have to carry me into the living room. *I* knew where I wanted to snuggle!
This morning, she got up & found me on the sofa, basically right where she left me. I drank some CatSip and ate some ham treats but she doesn't know if I ate anything or drank anything during the night or not. She took this picture of me w/Mr. Carrot and this is where I was, in front of our food bins, when she left for work this morning. She's very, very worried about me.
I'm still quiet this morning. I did get up on the kitchen counter, and I wanted very much to do the 49-in. jump up to the tops of the cabinets, but I was hesitating, like I just wasn't sure. Then I tried the "counter to 'fridge to cabinet" route, but I wasn't sure of that, either. I'd get into a half-crouch, then decide against it, just like I did at the corner "direct route" location on the counter top. So eventually, I just got on the floor where I am now. MomKatt ate breakfast with me & called Dr. L the minute she got into work.
He said that, if this didn't perk me up within 24-48 hours, to NOT wait until Saturday. MomKatt is to bring me back in tomorrow (Friday) morning. She Emailed DadKatt to let him know the status.
I'm SO not myself. At least, though, with Boudicca up in MomKatt's office during the day, and last night, I don't have to worry about her bugging me during the day or while the pawrents are asleep. So that's SOMETHING.
I DID pee in the box this morning, so MomKatt thought that was a good thing. She is also encouraged that I do still have an appetite. She has to work late tonight (she won't get home 'til 7:30), so DadKatt will report on feeding me gooshy food. She told me I MUST eat.
So we'll continue to keep everyone posted. Thank you for all the purrs & love & headbonks ... MomKatt says to please keep 'em coming. She's very stressed & worried & just wants me to get WELL!
PURRS!
Selina (the still-punky)
PS - I love my vet!

MomKatt here - I've gotten OUT of working late tonight so I can go straight home. I'm most anxious that the afternoon passes. I'm overwhelmed by the concern & love for my little Selina - thank you all SO much! Will post an update this evening ...
ReplyDeleteMomKatt Laura
Glad you have a good vet.
ReplyDeleteMy Peter and Isis both had the fever of unknown origin symptoms last year, at different times.
I had to syringe-feed Isis until she got better, she had basically become so lethargic it seemed she'd given up. Both had 100% full recoveries and are doing well now -- just wanted to give you encouragement that this type of FUO can be overcome! Keeping the fluids is the most important.
Both of mine also had a shot of Convenia, the 2 week antibiotic, as well as sub-Q fluids.
Saying a prayer that Selina fully recovers soon!
Sending love from the Purries of 'Purrchance To Dream'
Thank you! Did they determine what had caused the fevers?
DeleteOh Selina! We are so sorry that you have been poorly and we hope you are back to normal and in full, flying Wallender form as soon as possible. We have all had fevers like that before and got over them ok, we like to see all the apes scratching their heads.
