Tarot Thursday, anyone?

Today, MomKatt wanted me to ask if anyone out there was into tarot cards like she is.

She has two decks that she uses regularly (well, not SO regularly the past few years, but lately she's been getting back into it):  The Golden Tarot (given her love of things medieval, this deck is particularly cherished):

(She uses the High Priestess card to represent herself with this deck.)

and Tarot of the Cat People (which is REALLY awesome with gorgeous fantasy cat artwork).

In particular, in the Cat People deck (above), she loves the "Death" card - but, of course, they are all beautiful.

She uses tarot cards primarily when she's got something on her mind, something she's pondering.  She says she finds that they quite often lead her to other ways of thinking about something that she had not considered before or had thought previously insignificant, especially if something (a theme, a word or phrase) keeps cropping up throughout a particular card spread.

Plus ... she just loves looking at them.  She likes to collect decks for their artwork and she's quite picky (some out there today are, apparently, VERY "cheesy".  Don't know what is wrong with that myself.  I like cheese and she REALLY likes cheese.  She must be referring to some non-edible variety ... which REALLY doesn't make sense ...)

She also visits this website sometimes when she doesn't have her deck with her:

http://www.byzant.com/Mystical/Tarot/Default.aspx

But she says she prefers to be touching the cards & actually have a deck before her if she's working on a particularly knotty problem.

Anyway, I digress.

So, since I didn't have anything myself to meow about today, so I said, "Sure, have at it!" when she asked me if I minded posting about this.

Hey!  It's a break from Camo Bed and teasers, right?  (Plus, I wonder what she'd do if I leaped into the midst of a spread when she's doing one?  Humm ... maybe I'd better not ... )

PURRS!

  2. I like that cat Tarot deck! My human has a couple of different sizes of the Rider-Waite deck, plus the Egyptian Tarot cards, which she rarely uses, and only for something serious. Plus a pocket Tarot on her desk that she has forgotten about 'til just now. She also has a bag of runes, and will pull one out every so often to see what's up.

    Me? I read catnip leaves.

  3. You should have saved this for Senile Saturday when the humans can have a go at our blogs. I shocked TW isn't into this stuff. One of her friends read her tarot cards once and scared the hell out of her.

  4. We love the Cat People deck, Mommy would love to know how to read tarot cards. Your Mother has some nice art work on hers.

  6. Our mom used to read Tarot cards when she was younger, but hasn't for many years. She's not even sure where her decks are. She used to lay out 2 cards in each position instead of one because she felt it gave her more detail and insight. She hasn't seen anyone else do that, but maybe you could try it & see what you think.

  7. My woman has at least a half dozen decks or more, most several decades old, except for the Dragon tarot deck that she got a few years ago. She remembers the cat people deck as very beautiful, but somehow never acquired one. The Aquarian deck is the one she uses the most now, frequently in the celtic cross layout. Other decks lend themselves best to certain specific uses other than daily affairs, such as the Thoth, Osho Zen, or Egyptian, and other special purpose decks, as well as a couple of gemstone/crystal decks. While she, also, prefers to handle the cards, sometimes she uses the oracle that Matrix software has on their site. She also has several sets of runes, some gemstone, some clay, mostly used as Sparkle mentioned. Since she moved back from the west coast, there isn't a very active community here. She would love to talk with others about these subjects again.

Well, we prefer catnip tea leaves like Sparkle. Purrs.
