More Pics of Rachel
Mornin' Peeps!
Well, our fosters continue to make progress. Mr. Ray is still being coy and it's just breaking MomKatt's heart because he is SO sweet and SO pitiful all at once. She says she must try to be patient, but that it's hard because she knows he would respond to a little love & affection. But he *is* making great progress elsewhere, so she is very hopeful and optimistic the other will come with time.
1. Ray's continuing to explore the lay of the office. When MomKatt comes in, she's finding him on her reading chair, or on the back of it, and she's left the blinds open so they both can look outside. He likes sitting on the windowsill.
2. He's playing! (MomKatt says she'll have to get a new Cat Dancer 'cause he's already tearing the one she had for us up.) He's been active both with Rachel (tentatively) when she's playing with a toy and on his own. He fancies a purple fake-fur-covered catnip mouse MomKatt brought up there for him to try out. It's not vigorous playing like Rachel does - she goes all out! - but he's playing nonetheless.
3. He's learning rapidly that, when MomKatt taps her fingertip on the ceramic food dish just before she puts it on the floor before him, that is the signal for "GOOSHY FUD"! She's started feeding them 1/2 can of Fancy Feast Kitten each, twice a day, rather than 1/4 a can twice a day. Each kitten really could stand some more meat on their bones, especially Mr. Ray.
4. He *is* at least not totally bolting if/when MomKatt extends her hand in front of him and just holds it there, palm down. (She's doing this frequently to get him used to her.) She wants him to sniff her and he acts as though he just can't make up his mind whether to do so or not. So far, his decision is "not" but ... she DID get to touch his back this morning but only because he wasn't looking. When he felt her fingertip, he turned his head and moved away from her.
NO litterbox problems with either of them. They've been well-trained & Ray found the box quickly once she got them in the room on Saturday.
Meanwhile, here are more pics of Rachel. We hope to enlist DadKatt with his good digital camera to help take pics of Ray this evening. AND this Friday is a Furlough Friday for her, which means a 3-day weekend with the kittens! (DadKatt's abandoning us for the 24 Hours of Le Mans from Sat. morning, early, through 10 AM Sunday morning. His eyes will be glued to the TV and the race all during that time, so we'd better get him up there NOW before that starts or forget it!)
So on to the pics!
More eating!
Playing!
Staring at something on the carpet
(In this one above, Rachel actually got the Cat Dancer away from Ray for 5 seconds!)
And finally ...
She's thinking what to do next in that shot! (Note her adorable little collar, which has multi-colored owls on it.)

Well I think Ray is doing amazingly well considering all he has been through and with his vision problems. That Rachael sure has that siamese like voice!
ReplyDeleteMomKatt thinks so, too! And his head is rather oriental-shaped - actually, BOTH their heads are but Ray's especially.
DeleteYou never know .....
If there's room, maybe MomKatt can just sit in the floor and read a while, maybe even out loud. Lotts of kities can handle about anything but being ignored.
ReplyDeleteOh plenty of room in her office! Plus she can work on stuff while she's sitting there. Of course, she talks to us kits all the time ... :)
DeleteThat's great news about the progress.
ReplyDeletepurring for both these sweethearts.
Thank you Abby! :)
DeleteThat is such a sad story about the trailer park kitties! I am sure Ray will come around - maybe Connie Kittyblog from Tails from the Foster Kittens will have some helpful suggestions. She has done a great job of socializing her blind foster, Odilia.
ReplyDeleteSparkle, thank you! We welcome ANY advice, especially from those that have "been there, done that!" This is new territory for MomKatt.
DeleteYes, it IS sad.

ReplyDeleteThose poor trailer park kitties. It is the people who live there who need to be euthanised. Your mum is an angel for fostering Ray Charles and Rachael.
ReplyDeleteFlynn!
DeleteYou know it! Dr. Selina, readying the needles for insertion! Jerks!
And thank you. We do what we can. And they've brought joy, too, so it's a win-win situation. We just hope Ray continues to make progress - we feel sure that he will.
PURRZ!
I shared Ray and Rachel's saga on Homer the Blind Wonder Cat's FB page and 45 people have liked it so far. Maybe they can find their forever home. Ray looks like a mini Homer.
ReplyDeleteWe're so glad to hear that Rachael is adapting. Ray will get there. After all he has been thorugh, he'll just take a little time. It sounds like he's taking baby (kitten) steps now.
ReplyDeleteOH I am so happy to read this great news AND to see you, Selina. I have missed you. xoxox
ReplyDeleteEven though it's slow-going with Ray, it sounds like you are making great progress!
ReplyDeletePurrs,
The Chans
It is so nice to hear that they play and to see them!
ReplyDeleteYour MomKatt is very patient and nice =^.^=
Purrs
You are doing a great job MomKatt. They are coming along by leaps and bounds!! MOL perhaps literally!
ReplyDeleteThanks fort the very thorough update. Mom says it must be challenging to work with Ray Charles but very rewarding as well. Purrs and hugs, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Josette
