RACHEL & RAY CHARLES: STILL LOOKING!
Meowlo, peeps!
Today, we are bringing you NEW pics of Rachel & Ray Charles, the foster kitties from Greenville, SC, that have been living in MomKatt's office for over three weeks (!!) now. If you'll recall, both these kitties were blogged about by my good friend, Brian, in this post:
Black, Blind and in a Bind
The title there IS a link that will take you straight through to the original blog post. I don't know if you're able to see that or not.
Both kittens had Entropion, an abnormal genetic eye condition that causes a cat's eyelid, or portion of the eyelid, to be inverted or folded inward against the eyeball, resulting in irritation and scratches to the cornea -- the front surface of the eye -- which can lead to corneal ulceration, or corneal perforation.
They both had surgery for this condition and, while Rachel can see (it seems to MomKatt) most anything quite easily, Ray Charles is, she would estimate, 80% or so blind. However, he can see light and dark and shapes and gets around her office WONDERFULLY well - jumping up on the desk, on the chair, on the windowsill (he LOVES to chew up paper, we've found out). But his vision is very limited. (He found the food bowl, the water bowl and the litterbox within 15 minutes of his arrival, so that major concern was put to bed quite rapidly.)
THEY ARE STILL AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION! The major point of this blog entry is to remind folks they are still out here and STILL waiting for their forever home, and to reiterate that, much as they'd LOVE to do so, Mom&DadKatt cannot keep them.
POTENTIAL ADOPTERS SHOULD CONTACT TERRY FRUM, BRIAN'S DAD, AT terry@foreverhomewanted.com.
Both kittens are growing into VERY sleek, tubular house panthers. Rachel has a motor on her that won't stop, and she meows LOUDLY to demand her gooshy food. She'll stand up on her hind legs like a meerkat and plays VERY hard. They both LOVE the Cat Dancer toys that MomKatt brought for them. (WARNING: They will destroy a Cat Dancer in less than one week, so if you adopt them, get yourself a good supply!) Both kittens are in excellent health - eating well, poops/pees normal and healthy - and are as lively and fun as any kittens you'd want to meet. Ray IS a bit quieter than his sister, but seeing them playing together is a treat! When one or the other leaps onto the other's head ... all bets are OFF!
MomKatt feels they are at the stage now where they would be EXCELLENT fur kids for someone who would HAVE to accept going in that, though Ray has made great strides since being with MomKatt (he touches his nose to her fingertip now, and will accept treats from her hand), he still doesn't like to be petted, held or picked up. He will allow you to pet him if he's sitting in his carrier, and she's picked him up FROM inside the carrier a few times to cuddle him, but after a few minutes, he wants "down".
While we hope that, in time, Ray will come to accept petting and loving and holding, and MomKatt continues to work with him on this, you have to consider that he basically went from being caged all the time to being "out" in her office all the time, so MomKatt can imagine the adjustment he's made to make (and done so successfully, we might add). He's made terrific strides over the last three weeks, and has been an object lesson to MomKatt in "patience" and "successful baby steps".
But whoever adopts them would have to realize that Ray might never reach the same level of total socialization and playfulness with another human (as opposed to his sister) that Rachel has reached and love and accept him at his level and on his terms. THIS DOES NOT MEAN HE WOULDN'T MAKE A GOOD PET! He has his own "charm" and presence and you CANNOT separate them, either. These two kittens are so tightly bonded, due to being almost exclusively with each other and due to the hell they've been through in their short lives. They would and will have to be adopted as a pair.
In fact, MomKatt thinks best case scenario would be that they'd be the only cats! Rachel LOVES LOVES LOVES attention and soaks it up like a sponge. Ray plays with her, plays with the Cat Dancer and the other toys MomKatt's put out for them, and also his "parachute cube" (which, when they are adopted, will go with him because it smells like him now and none of us use it anyway). They've met my sisfur, Morticia, and someone hissed once (MomKatt thinks it was Ray but her back was turned). Rachel didn't seem to care one way or the other about 'Ticia and 'Ticia soon got the heck out of the office! MOL But no blood was shed!
So that's the latest update on these two kittens. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO SHARE THIS POST! We really want to see them get the loving, permanent forever home they both so richly deserve! Meanwhile, they're being well-cared for and catered to ... but I want MomKatt's office back! MOL
Enough of my meowing. Here are the pics, taken July 8, 2013.
Again, if you are interesting in adopting these special kitties, please send an email to Terry Frum at terry@foreverhomewanted.com.
And thank you!
PURRZ!

I am wracking my kitty brain trying to figure out something New and Different to promote these two! I would love to see them find a home together - and soon!
ReplyDeleteSparkle, thank you - we welcome ANY ideas! MomKatt's worried they are getting TOO attached to her, if you know what I mean, and feels they need to be where they will be the rest of their lives. We're a "rest area" along the path of their journey. That being said, she's really enjoying them. :)
DeleteThe PURRfect home for them will come along - I BeliEVE!!
ReplyDeleteWe hope so 'cause they both definitely deserve happiness!
DeleteI so hope you find their people soon
ReplyDeleteMommy loves black kitties so, so much, but Daddy won't let us add to our household. We are praying for them to get their furever home very, very soon. Purrs and hugs, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo
